The Catcher in the Rye 10

Hi, I read chapter 24 this week.

Holden left his home and went to see Mr. Antolini. He is Holden’s past English teacher at the Elkton Hills School. He is clever and sympathetic. Holden respects him. Holden sometimes finds him a bit too clever but he looks to him for guidance. He preached the importance of study at school and warned Holden is now dropping. He also said if a person continues learning for many years, he or she will gradually understand their intelligence. That means, you should live within your size…

After this conversation, Holden is said to stay Mr. Antolini’s house tonight. The couch was little small for him, but he tried to sleep. He thought deeply about his teacher’s words. But at the moment he felt someone sit next to him. It was Mr.Antolini and he was stoking Holden. Holden was surprised and confused, cannot help leaving his house.

This is the end of this chapter. I think this is the most difficult part. It is hard for me to describe what Mr. Antolini trying to say. And I wonder why Holden should have left his house. He thought Mr.Antolini gay? If so, I can understand his feeling..
