The Reader 8
In the beginning of autumn, Michael began to betray her. But it doesn’t mean that he leaks her secrets or makes fun of her. That is, he didn’t let others know about Hanna. He ignored her.
One day, Hanna suddenly appeared in front of Michael when he was playing with his friends. It was the first time that they meet without appointment. The next day, Hanna moved out without saying goodbye to him.
There’s a sentence “he know it’s too late” but I don’t understand what is “too late” for Michael so far.

The Reader 7
At this chapter, something in Michael’s mind starts to change…
He was happy, but sometimes he wonders which place is better to belong. It means, he can’t decide Hanna or his friends of school to spend the time in everyday life longer.
On his eighteenth birthday, he was playing with his friends at the poolside near their school. They celebrated his birthday there. Michael could be relaxed and could feel comfortable when he’s spending time with the boys. After that, he visited Hanna on the way home. But she didn’t celebrate him because she hadn’t known his birthday. In addition, she was in a bad mood then so she treated him cold.
When something like this happens, he felt he wants to back to the life before he encounters her.

The Reader 6
At this chapter, Michael decided to have a trip with Hanna. Michael is excited and prepares for the trip, and also Hanna is looking forward to it. They ride on the train, and visit some places changing hotels often.
During the trip, they had trouble only once. One morning, Michael wake up early and went to cafeteria in order to bring breakfast. He left a note on the table, but when he came back to the room, Hanna was awake and she was very angry so that she slapped him on the cheek with leather belt. She couldn’t find the memo, so she thought he left her alone. Strangely enough, the memo disappeared.
He has never seen Hanna gets emotional like this, so he thought he knew her childish, surprising aspect.

The Reader 5
An Easter day’s morning, Michael woke up early. That day she was working the early shift. He rode on a train which she works to surprise her. So he pretended not to notice her. But it annoyed her. After work, she said him why he ignored her. Their trouble always begins from small, insignificant things like that. But he always apologizes first and she forgives him right, so their relationship seems good.

The Reader 4
One day, Michael asked her name. Her name was Hannah. She is 36 years old. She came to Berlin when she was teenager. While a war, she had worked in army. Now she is a conductor. He asked her a lot of things, about her family, her school, and so on. But she didn’t tell him a lot.
He is delayed a year at school because he had been sick. So he has to study to catch up with others. In spite of this, he skips his class and visits her. One day it came out, then she got angry and made him to go to school. When he talks to her about a Hemingway story which he learn at school, she said she likes his voice. She listened to him talking carefully. It was precious time for him.

The Reader 3
This week I read 4 chapters.
Michael visits a woman helped him the other day. She wasn’t her flat, then she just came back and he could meet her. She said him to bring some coal from basement. There was a heap of coal at the basement, and he lost his balance, he was covered with ash. She laughed to see him and prepared bath for him. Michael hesitated at first, but finally he took bath. While he was taking his clothes off, she looked at him calmly. She dusted the dirt off his clothes at the balcony. She brought him bath towel, then he noticed she was nude, too. He slept with her the afternoon. It was the first time for him to be crazy for a woman.

The Reader 2
Good evening everyone.
This week I read first some chapters of the
book.
The main character is Michael, a fifteen-year-old
boy. But his name hardly appears in this story because this novel is written in
the first person. In the beginning of the story, he has been sick in bed for a
half year. One day he feels better and went out. But he threw up on the Bahnfor
street. Then a woman came to him and helped to clean up the street and make him
to walk. This is their encounter. The next day, he was diagnosed with jaundice,
a disease in which skin and the white parts of eyes become yellow. After he
recovered, he went to see her to thank her for her help.

The Reader 1
This semester, I decided to read “The Reader” written by Bernhard
Schlink. He was a German writer and he had ever given special award. Now he is a
professor in university.
This
is a love story between a teenage boy and an adult woman. They have trouble for
their relationship for several times because of the age difference. I think it might be little difficult to sympathize with them because their relation is unusual. But I'm going to try to continue reading with usisng my imagination.

The Catcher in the Rye - impression
Hello. Last week, I finished reading, so
this week I will write about my impression of the story.
This story is full of Holden’s compliance. He
is tired of everything around him such as school, teachers, and his unimportant
roommates. This is because all they are “Phoney”. “Phoney” means fake. I couldn’t
understand the real meaning so I have to read again more carefully.
Holden is sixteen years old and in puberty.
People in this age are sensitive about such matter. I think the point of the
story is how to live sincerely.

The Catcher in the Rye 11
hello. I read 25 and 26 and I finished reading this week!
After Holden left Mr. Antolini’s house, he went to see his sister,
Phoebe. Actually he was going to say goodbye to her. He wrote a letter for her,
and brought it to her elementary school. He met principal. She was a very old,
kind woman. He asked to pass his letter to Phoebe, she willingly promised. He had
time until he meets to Phoebe, so he walked street. He met two boys going to
museum. It was the museum where Holden used to go when he was little. It brings
back his memory.
After that he met Phoebe. Surprisingly, she
said to leave home with Holden! She had her luggage with her. Of course Holden didn’t
say yes, persuade her to go back. He promised he will back, and Phoebe
satisfied with it.
It
was the end of the story. It was written in dairy form, and at the last, Holden
says he doesn’t want to write about his story anymore because if he speaks
more, his story will immediately spread out.

The Catcher in the Rye 10
Hi, I read chapter 24 this week.
Holden left his home and went to see Mr. Antolini. He is Holden’s past
English teacher at the Elkton Hills School. He is clever and sympathetic.
Holden respects him. Holden sometimes finds him a bit too clever but he looks to
him for guidance. He preached the importance of study at school and warned
Holden is now dropping. He also said if a person continues learning for many
years, he or she will gradually understand their intelligence. That means, you
should live within your size…
After this conversation, Holden is said to stay Mr. Antolini’s house
tonight. The couch was little small for him, but he tried to sleep. He thought
deeply about his teacher’s words. But at the moment he felt someone sit next to
him. It was Mr.Antolini and he was stoking Holden. Holden was surprised and
confused, cannot help leaving his house.
This is the end of this chapter. I think this is the most difficult
part. It is hard for me to describe what Mr. Antolini trying to say. And I wonder
why Holden should have left his house. He thought Mr.Antolini gay? If so, I can
understand his feeling..

The Catcher in the Rye 9
Hello. I had three presentations last week, so I’m little tired. I have final exam on July, so I feel nervous…
I read chapter 23 this week. The story is coming to the final stage.
Their parents came back to home, and Holden quickly hidden in the cabinet. He was
smoking in the room, so his mother doubted Phoebe. Fortunately she succeeded to
gloss over.
After that, he decided to leave home. He had to do so. He asked
Phoebe to lend a few money, but she gave him her all pocket money to him. He tried
to return, but she didn’t receive. He cried and couldn’t stop it.

The Catcher in the Rye 8
Hello. It has been a long time since I written
the post at last… I’m little busy these days.
I read only chapter 22 this time X(
At his home, he looks back his story in the
boarding school. All he could remember were bad memory there. For example, a
skinny boy who has being bullied at the dormitory. He talked about the story to
his younger sister, Phoebe, with complaint. He uses rough langurage toward her,
so she said him not to use dirty word, but he didn’t hear that. I felt he is
little childish. It’s no use saying her complaint.

The Catcher in the Rye 7
I read chapter 20 and 21 last week.
Holden goes to bar and drinks a lot as usual. In his way to home, he
bought a record to his younger sister, Phoebe. He has been lived in NY almost
of all his life. He was drunk, so he thought about small things all the way. For
example, he doesn’t want to be buried in narrow grave, he doesn’t want people
to go dinner after his funeral… and so on. I can’t understand his mind.
After
that, he went back to home. Fortunately, his parents were out. He met his
lovely sister, Phoebe. She always talks to Holden and he seems to enjoy the
conversation too. Holden says Phoebe is a smart girl, but there were a lot of
mistakes in her letter. I think he overestimate her.

The Catcher in the Rye 6
Hello, I read chapter 16 to 19 this week.
After he goes back to hotel, he thought some problems he worries about. First, he said he is coward. When he's fighting someone, he never bites the person. Instead of this, he says disagreeable things.
Another problem is that he never mind if he lost something. He has never had so important things. When one of his friends behaved as if he owns the nice suitcase...actually Holden's... he never mind that.
He had date with a girl, sally. She is good looking, and loves theater. They went to see play. Holden is not interested in play so much, but he was satisfied because she enjoyed it. After that, he went back to hotel.

The Catcer in the Rye 5
Hi! I have a lot of part time job this week,
so I'm tired. This week, I read The Catcher in the Rye through chapter 12 to
15.
Some people asked me the reason I choose
this book. I choose this one because I don’t know its story at all although
this is a very famous novel. Also main character of the story attracted me so
much. This is another reason.
Holden went to night club by taxi. He was
talking to chauffeur all the time. They had worthless conversation. At the club,
he heard his friend’s piano. It was terrible but he didn’t go out because he didn’t
want to be alone. Actually he felt lonely after he left his school. So he
talked to anyone even though he doesn’t like or he’s not interested in them.
After he drunk alone, he went back to hotel
by walk.

The Catcher in the Rye 4
Good evening. This week, I’ll write about chapter 9 to 11.
Holden arrive New York, and he found cheap hotel. He met older girls
there, and drinks with them. He seems he wants to pretend to be an adult.
Chapter 9 and 11 was about his flashback. He
thinks about his younger sister. He really loves her. He misses his sister
because he left his hometown. Also he can’t forget his past girlfriend, Jane. In
this part, he praises everything of her. He could be relaxed when he’s with
her. I felt he is still attracted to her.
His story lacks coherence, but not boring. I’ll continue reading. Thank
you for reading.

The Catcher in the Rye 3
Hello.
I read to middle of chapter 9 last week. Two students who live in
dormitory with Holden have conversation in the chapters from 3 to 7. One is Ackley.
He is Holden’s neighbor in dormitory. He has terrible, dirty teeth and he boast
because he is older than Holden. So he is hated from others. Another student is
Stradlater. He is Holden’s roommate. He is handsome, self-satisfied boy. He is
popular and he likes girls. One day, they fought because Stradlater said Holden’s
backbiting. Holden really tired of them, so he decided to leave school without
mention. He caught train heading NY. After that, he reaches NY, and stays cheap
hotel.
Thank you for reading.

The Catcher in the Rye 2
I read The Catcher in the Rye larger number of pages than last week. In
the beginning of the story, the main character, Holden Caulfield is a
seventeen-year-old boy, was said to quit his boarding school by principal. This
story is written by his eyesight. In chapter
2, he was scolded by the principal about his attitude and poor report. While he
is talking to him, he continued complain. He seems he hate everything about school
including study, teachers, and even looks and tone of voice of principal. He is
a teenager and he is in puberty. So I think it’s natural that he resists society.
He’ s going to go many different places alone, so I’m looking forward to read
next chapter.
Thank
you for reading my blog.2013年5月6日月曜日
the Cathcer in the Rye 1
I chose “the Catcher in the Rye” written by
D. J. Salinger in 1951, in America. This is a famous book among American people,
and I think most of students who major in English and literatures study this
work at least once. However I haven’t read it, I don’t even know its story. This
is why I chose this book.
I
will write about the story roughly. The main character is teenage boy who lives
in dormitory. One day he was expelled from school (school told him to quit
school), so he leave dormitory and tries to go back his home.
Actually, I have just finished reading the
begging so I can’t write much about the book. Next week I will try writing a
lot.
